Initiatives Lead, Global Alliance For Social Entrepreneurship


The World Economic Forum and its sister organization, the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, are looking for an Initiatives Lead for the Global Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship with a targeted start date of March 2023. The position involves a 18-months, full-time role in a growing team.

The Global Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship is an initiative of the World Economic Forum. Launched in response to the COVID-19 crisis together with key partners, the Global Alliance is a flagship platform of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and is integrated with its community of 450 social innovators, as well as  the Forum community of over 1,000 members. As a Global Alliance, it focuses on how its community of 100+ members and partners can collaborate to support a resilient social innovation ecosystem and collaborate to drive forward collective agendas.  

The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, sister organization of the World Economic Forum, is a leading global platform that accelerates outstanding models of social innovation. Over the past two decades, a total of 722 million lives have been directly improved by its  work.  The day-to-day activities of the Alliance are coordinated by the Secretariat hosted at the World Economic Forum and supported by the Schwab Foundation.

The position of Initiatives Lead within the Alliance Secretariat will be responsible for ensuring the success of Alliance members’ portfolio of Action Projects, developing and maintaining its governance structure and managing partnerships and connections between our internal and external stakeholders to take full advantage of the Forum’s knowledge, platform, and community of global decision makers.

Duties and responsibilities

You will report directly reporting to the Head of the Global Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship. You will be part of a growing team within the Alliance and work in close collaboration with the Schwab Foundation team including the Head of the Schwab Foundation. Within the Forum, you will work with colleagues  from other platforms and centers to ensure alignment with the general work of the organization. Externally, you will work with a broad range of stakeholders  of the Alliance and the community.

Community Management

Jointly responsible for maintaining an active and engaged Alliance community with ownership for the day-to-day interactions. This would include:

  • Playing an active role in managing the Alliance community, which includes designing suitable  processes and tools for the broader team to engage and build a thriving community
  • Coordinating relationships and check-ins with a subset of Alliance members, in line with our distributed community management model where every member is classified according to the level of involvement in Action Agendas
  • Liaise with internal Forum platforms and communities that are of relevance to the Alliance on an ongoing basis, acting as a bridge builder between such communities and the individual and shared programs of our Alliance members – most notably our Alliance portfolio of Action Agendas (see below “Initiative Management”)
  • Tracking and improving member engagement in Alliance activities and platforms (in liaison with the Comms and Events Lead)
  • Closely collaborate with our team’s Communications & Events lead to manage the Alliance’s online communities, including the Forum’s official community platform ‘TopLink’

Initiative Management

Responsible for managing and coordinating the Secretariat’s active role in Alliance members’ Action Agendas. Topics include Inclusive Health, Social Procurement, Racial Justice, Social Economy Policy and emerging agendas such as Climate Adaptation and Circularity. All Action Agendas connect through the common thread of highlighting the role of social innovators and entrepreneurs. The Initiatives Lead will have responsibility for designing Action Agendas and taking sole responsibility for a subset of Agendas. Responsibilities include:

  • Setting short- and long- term strategy for several Action Agendas, including the development of Theories of Change, identification of goals/ KPIs, activities, and resourcing. Strategic priorities are defined based on: (1) how the Alliance can connect workstreams across Agendas and have catalytic impact in the sector and (2) how the Forum platform can be auxiliary  to the success of these projects
  • Managing the workflow of Action Agendas in coordination with Member leads (driving regular meetings and deliverables)
  • Liaising with a Communications & Events Lead on a regular basis to find synergies and opportunities for showcasing Action Projects in international fora and media outlets
  • Tracking and  reporting on Action Agenda progress and success, as well as sharing such progress within and outside of the Alliance community
  • Maintaining and enhancing the Alliance project management infrastructure to allow it to scale up its number of Action Agendas going forward.

Qualifications and Skills

With a demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment, you would be eager to showcase your aptitude to build multi-sectoral coalitions and liaise with business leaders and leading  subject-matter experts in academia, international organizations, governments and non-governmental organizations, as well as with representatives from civil society and grassroots organizations. Some concrete skills and capabilities we are looking for are:,

  • Broad intellectual background with a graduate degree and with considerable expertise in the field of social entrepreneurship, impact investing and/or sustainable transformation of business
  • A demonstrated focus on creating positive team cultures, based on strong values and mission-focus
  • A minimum of 5 years and ideally 10 years of experience in the sector and in project management, community management, and building strategic partnership in a multicultural environment
  • Experience working in low-income countries, ideally supporting the social entrepreneurship or development sector
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning and communication skills (verbal, written and editorial)
  • Fluency in English, with French language skills being valued
  • Demonstrated ability to enable teams to drive projects as well as an ability to lead projects autonomously; fully committed to project deliverables and at the same time to teamwork
  • Thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments, where resilience, flexibility and entrepreneurial attitudes are must-haves
  • Ability to work both at a conceptual, analytical, and a detail-oriented level; willingness to take on necessary administrative tasks as needed
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database management)
  • Command of Salesforce CRM system is advantageous
  • Familiarity with virtual tools, Zoom and related virtual conferencing tools a plus
